Malaria

Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite that is transmitted from the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito. It is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. When traveling to areas of the world where malaria is common, consider taking these recommended protective measures:

  1. Use of insecticide-treated bed nets.
  2. Avoid being outdoors during dusk and dawn when mosquitos are most active.
  3. Use of recommended insect repellant.
  4. Wear-long sleeved clothing and pants when outdoors at night.
  5. Use screens over doors and windows.
  6. Antimalarial medications are also available and should be prescribed in the correct dosages to those traveling to areas of the world where malaria is common.
  7. Consult your physician or international travel clinic.
