Tickborne Diseases
There are a variety of tickborne diseases ticks carry that cause human disease. To reduce the chances of getting a tickborne disease, limit exposure to ticks during the warmer months (April-September) by avoiding wooded or bushy areas with high grass, and by walking in the center of trails and use insect repellant that contains 20-30% DEET on exposed skin and clothing. Conduct full body tick checks upon returning from tick-infested areas. Ticks can ride into the home on clothing and pets, so carefully examine pets and clothing. Tumble clothes in a dryer on high heat for an hour to kill remaining ticks.
