The overall objectives of the Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Communicable Diseases are to reduce communicable/infectious disease outbreaks and provide systematic and ongoing collection, analysis, evaluation, and dissemination of epidemiologic data.

The Office of Communicable Diseases collaborates with local health departments, private healthcare providers, the Utah Public Health Laboratory and other partners to conduct disease investigations and surveillance of infectious diseases that are reportable in Utah. The Office of Communicable Diseases has the capacity to respond to events such as bioterrorism threats or an influenza pandemic.
