The Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Communicable Diseases works to prevent sickness and death from infectious diseases or environmental hazards. The Office of Communicable Diseases monitors diseases and works to keep them from spreading. It is also responsible for monitoring and responding to bioterrorism or communicable disease epidemics/pandemics.
