Shigellosis

Shigellosis

Shigellosis is a bacterial infection of the intestines. It is found in the feces (poop) of an infected person and is spread by close contact or by eating or drinking contaminated food or water. Common symptoms include mild to severe diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, and cramps. Most people will recover from shigellosis without treatment in 5 to 7 days. Healthcare providers may prescribe antibiotics for some people who have severe cases of shigellosis.
